Sauna coming today!

I am home early today waiting on the delivery of our new sauna. I bought it last month and it is finally coming today. I guess it is a Valentine's present! David doesn't know and it will be a surprise when he gets home tonight. He has to put it together though so maybe not such a great surprise but I am sure we are going to get a lot of use out of it. I will take pictures once we have it up and running.

Well, I didn't go to the quilt class last night. My thumb was hurting really bad from the shot and I didn't have any material or prep work done so I told my friend I wasn't going. I really want to finish up the two projects I have already started before I start a new one. I have the pattern for the star so I can always do it on my own later.

It has been really cold this past week. It was -2 the other morning and we have barely been getting to 20 the past few days. There is still a lot of ice on the ground with snow on top. The weather says we are supposed to get up into the 40s next week so maybe everything will melt then.

Not sure what time they are going to deliver so I am going to go take a nap while I wait!

Next Project

Here is a picture of what the Turtle Quilt is supposed to look like in the end and also all of the lily pad blocks that I made all laid out.

On Thursday, I am taking another class to make a star quilt.

Turtle Block

Here are the pictures of putting together a turtle block.

Super Bowl Sunday!!!

It is finally here! I was hoping the Steelers were going to win but they are down by 11 at the half so not sure if they can pull this out, we will see.

We had two days off of work this week for the ice storm we had. We lost power a couple of times but not for very long. We had snow yesterday but it is nice today.

I have been very busy in the evenings since last Saturday's quilting class. We made two blocks in class that are the two blocks that make up the quilt. I have made the 12 blocks that make up the "lily pad" part of the quilt and I am now working on the 13 "turtle" block. The turtle block takes a little longer because there is some paper piecing involved in order to make the rounded shell of the turtle and also applique of the head and tail. I am posting some pictures on the construction. Each block is basically made up of 2 inch squares. There are green blocks for lily pads, greenish brown blocks for turtles, and blue blocks for water. They are all 5 x 5 blocks. So, basically you lay out the 5 x 5 blocks how you want them and then sew each connecting block together vertically and then sew each row together horizontally to make up the block. Hopefully the pictures will help show how to put the blocks together. The first pictures are of the lily pad block.

Yeah! Friday

Another long week. I was busier this week because the annual awards were due but still not that exciting. I went to lunch with my friend today and she talked me into taking a quilt class with her tomorrow. It is a turtle quilt. I will post pictures tomorrow.

I have not worked on the skirt my thumb is acting up again and I have to get another shot in it. So, no knitting for awhile, at least I can sew. I need to finish the twin quilt that I started before Christmas.

Not much else going on around here, still cold, still snowy.

Brrrr It's Cold Outside!!

It was -7 yesterday morning! We are up to 12 today. It is very, very cold. I've been inside almost all weekend. We went to the commissary this morning and it was just frigid we could see our breath inside the car almost all the way there. I think we are getting back to snow tomorrow which is good because that means it will warm up...LOL!

We just came back from seeing the King's Speech, David went with me. I thought it was really good and people were clapping at the end of it. Colin was of course wonderful. I know he has won the Golden Globe for it and he is up for the BAFTA and Oscar. I hope he wins. I saw there were several cast members from the Pride & Prejudice miniseries and it took me awhile to find Jennifer Ehls (who played Elizabeth) but she is the wife if the speech therapist that the King goes too. Also, the person who played Mr. Collins plays a person to whom the speech therapist auditions to for a play. I thought it would have been neat if they had Jennifer Ehls play the queen but Helena Bohnham Carter played it very well.

Well, I have not worked on my skirt at all. I have not done any craft at all!! I wish I could take it to work to do because work is so boring but I don't think they would like it too much. Right now I watch movies on the little DVD player David got me for my birthday. It is easier to get what little work done I have and to look like I am working while I watch movies than it would be if I were knitting something. Melissa signed me up for another quilt class. It is a Star quilt class and starts on 10 Feb. I haven't even finished my last quilt! I will just make the small quilt this time so I will be sure to finish it in the two classes.

Well, I have got to go do my Sunday chores now, I do really need a maid to keep things cleaned up around here, I spent most of the day yesterday cleaning up the dinning room!

Talk to you later!

Happy Birthday to Me!!

I've had a great birthday weekend so far! David and I went to the RV show yesterday there were lots of fifth wheels to look at but we only found one that we halfway liked. The living rooms were really laid out poorly and we have to have a king size bed. Well, we have a few years to figure out what we really want but it was fun to go window shopping.

Today we went to the movies. I was going to see the King's Speech but David wanted to see the Green Hornet which I also wanted to see so I went to see that with him and it was pretty good. I was going to go see the King's Speech tomorrow while David works but I am not sure the movie times are going to line up with my spa appointment. Might have to go next weekend. We all went out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. I saved up all day so I could eat my steak and it was delicious! David just went and got an ice cream cake that we will eat later. I am snuggled down in front of the fire now getting ready to watch the second half of the Patriots/Jets game.

I am looking forward to my manicure, pedicure and facial tomorrow it has been a long time since I have had them done. When I am done I am going to the Dorothy Lane Market which is a fancy gourmet food store that has a fabulous health food section. Have to get back to the diet tomorrow. It is going really well, I've lost 10 pounds since after Christmas and about 3 pounds since doing the vegan thing. My clothes are getting loser so that is the best thing!

I am going to work on my skirt now. I'll post more tomorrow.
